PERIODONTAL DISEASE

Periodontal disease "Gum Disease" attacks the gums and the bone that hold the teeth.  It  is usually painless in the early stages.

It is one of the main reasons of tooth loss. 

There may be a link between periodontal disease and other diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular disease.  Inflammation and bacteria associated with periodontal disease may affects these systemic diseases.  Smoking also increases the risk of periodontal disease.

Some signs and symptoms of periodontal disease are:

• Red and puffy gums

• Bleeding gums

• Receding gums

• New spacing between teeth

• Persistent bad breath

• Loose teeth

• Tenderness or Discomfort of the gums

• Pus around the teeth and gums

Good oral hygiene, a balanced diet, and regular dental visits will help reduce the  risk of developing periodontal disease.
